BIRLA MANDIR .JAIPUR

6.12.2013

LAKSHMI NARAYAN TEMPLE.

one of those days!!!
what will i do today?
don't want to travel far?

i had travelled past this temple of the many visits to j.k.k.
TODAY IS THE DAY.

this temple is dedicated to LORD VISHNU, the preserver, and his consort LAKSHMI, the goddess of wealth. this temple was constructed 28 years ago by the wealthy industrialist BIRLA family.
located on a hill, just beneath the MOTI DOONGRI FORT, the WHITE MARBLE temple dominates the city southern skyline.
the exterior has depictions of historic and reglious figures, & the interior has magnificent carvings of HINDU deities.

open daily.
closed for a few hours in the middle of the day.
free admission.
no shoes allowed (there is a shoe holder )

opps! hope you can read upside down.
SORRY.

the walking approach to the temple.

the ENTRANCE.
from here on in, NO SHOES.

magnificent WHITE MARBLE EVERYWHERE.
so cool, to walk on.
in summer, this would be refreshing.
NOT, in winter, it was freezing.

blue sky, against the white marble, then then 2 lovely ladies, walked into my shot.

isn't she beautiful.
she was sitting there, having family photos taken & i asked if i could take her photo.
as long, as i had my photo taken with her.

a corner of the temple, looking at a busy road.

it's the BURST of colour, that hits me, as i walk around the corner, to alight the stairs to go inside.
unfortunately NO PHOTOS INSIDE.
it was a sight.
all marble floor.
i sat in the corner and just took it all in.
there was an alter at the front, with people making offerings.
on each side of the building were 4 stained glass windows.
carved marble ceiling.
it was quiet inside, as people went about making offering and showing their respect.

the security guard, came along and indicated for me to go, as it was closing time for lunch.

everywhere was so clean.

i love to see the local flowers, that are in bloom.
WHITE SINGLE BOUGAINVILLEA.
with the MOTI DOONGRI FORT in the background.

it was a lovely outing.
NEXT time, i will remember they CLOSE FOR LUNCH.
