'DEEPOTSAV' FESTIVAL. JAIPUR

30.10.2013

this is DIWALI TIME.

this is THE  reason, why jaipur has had power cuts.
the CITY needs POWER FOR THE LIGHTS.
and WHAT A SHOW, JAIPUR PUTS ON.

JAH MAHAL
or THE WATER PALACE.
when you arrive by car, into JAIPUR, you can't miss this landmark.
built in the mid 18th century by madho sigh 1.
it is inspired by the LAKE PALACE IN UDAIPUR.
it was used for the royal duck shooting parties, and many varieties of water birds still migrate here annually.
unfortunately, for now, it is closed to the public.

it is not usually light,up like this.
to see JAL MAHAL in all its beauty, was a treat.

random lights & marigold petals on the ground.

MARIGOLD GARLANDS.

more lights, with JAL MAHAL in the background.

a typical RAJASTHAN PUPPET.
hand made in jaipur.

the music was fab!

so was the dancing.

waiting patiently for their turn to dance.

CHAT , is the hindi word for SNACKS.
there are chat sellers all along the road side.
this man is selling dried, crunchy beans, lentils.
he gets a small piece of newspaper, rolls into a cone shape, and pours the chat inside.
great take away food.

here is another.
selling fresh slices of pineapple/
most refreshing on a warm night.

going to this display @ night, was another example to me, to GET OUT AT NIGHT.
it would have so easy, not to go.
LOOK. what i would have missed out on.
