'SALT; THE GREAT MARCH' exhibition SHELLY JYOTI delhi sept 2013

YES,, YOU ARE SEEING THE DATE CORRECTLY.
i have decided to do some practise entries.
as there is NOTHING  like a photo, i thought i would take you back
and share a few of MY wonderful experiences and memories.

Let me introduce you to
SHELLY JYOTI.
she is a textile artist based in DELHI.
shelly has a webb site. i have left her details in jaipur, so i suggest you 'google' her .

shelly works with natural dyes, and of course salt.
the exhibition was a homage to Mahatma Gandhi

this instillation of salt was in the foyer.
a TASTE  of  a feast for the eyes.

the exhibition space was very large. and as it happened, annie, allison & myself had the privilege of a personal tour, with shelly.
she was the most generous artist. she shared her techniques, her vast knowledge of textile from gujarat.
the three of us, thoroughly enjoyed her company, before we ventured out into the torrential down pour of rain.

this is a close up of my favourite piece.
look closely..
the pattern on the side has been block printed.
many, many times to get the depth of colours.
also the KANTHA style of stitch.
we also call that stitch DEPRESSION stitch in australia.

these were circles, showing a few of the many and varied designs, that shelly has created based on very old traditional gujarati designs.

this was simply amazing how, the three of us, even got into see this exhibition.
JUST ONE OF THOSE THINGS THAT WAS MEANT TO HAPPEN.
