HUMAYAN'S TOMB.... new delhi.

when i was in delhi
i was wanting to visit at least 1 national monument.
decided on
HUMAYAN'S TOMB.

walking into the monument, they are promoting the
redevelopment of the tomb &  neighbouring area.
here are some of the  photos, that are attached to steel fencing.

HUMAYAN'S TOMB.

as is now.

plans to redevelop the surrounding area.

this is a photo of the proposed
MUSEUM.
the red sandstone flat building in the foreground will be the new museum.
it will be underground.

developing of the historic neighbourhood.

the tomb is an early example of

MUGHAL ARCHITECTURE.
it was built in the mid - 16th century by

HAJI BEGUM.
the persian born senior wife of the 2nd
mughal emperor

HUMAYAN.

the tomb bought Persian architecture to delhi,
but the combination of red sandstone and white marble is entirely local, showing the
complementary merging of the two cultures.

other beautiful tombs dot the complex,
including the emperor's favourite barber.

as well as one belonging to
HAJI BEGUM
herself.

i had visited this monument a few years ago,
with karen.
last year president obama paid a visit to delhi
& this monument was on his list to visit.

so, there was a massive clean up.
and clean it still is.

one of my memories of when i went with karen,
was the
 OVERWHELMING
smell of bat ****.

it is a wonderful place to wander,
and it will be a joy to revisit in a few years when the
museum and re development of the local area is complete.
